We are living in the age of the air fryer. Everyone seems to be asking how to make toast in an air fryer, so we decided to test it for ourselves. We tried out three different ways: butter on both sides with a hot pan, butter on one side and breadcrumbs on the other with a hot pan, and finally breadcrumb coated bread with a hot pan. We discovered that you can use an air fryer to make toast! Check out our results below!
What is an air fryer?
An air fryer is a kitchen appliance that uses hot air to cook your food.
Air fryers are different from other types of cooking because they don’t use oil. This makes them useful for those who want to cut down on their oil consumption or avoid cooking oils altogether. The appliance is also designed to create a healthier meal by crisping and browning foods without the need for added fats. Air fryers can be used to prepare a variety of dishes, including appetizers, entrees, desserts, and more!
What are the benefits of an air fryer?
Air fryers are a neat kitchen gadget. They are a healthier way to fry or bake food than using oil. You can make french fries, chicken wings, pork chops, and even rib-eye steaks in your air fryer. The best part about an air fryer is that you don’t have to add any oil to the food. This makes it easy for you to cook healthy meals without worrying about unhealthy oils.
The main benefit of an air fryer is the easy cleanup! There is no need to wipe up after frying anything because all of the messy oil stays inside of the machine. Cleaning an air fryer takes just a few minutes and your counter will be spotless!
How to make toast in an air fryer?
Option One: Butter on both sides with a hot pan
This method is the simplest. Put the bread into the air fryer and wait for three minutes, then spread butter on both sides of the bread and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
Option Two: Butter on one side and breadcrumbs on the other with a hot pan.
This is a little more time-consuming but it’s worth it. Put your bread in the fryer and let it cook for three minutes. Spread butter on one side of the bread, then put some breadcrumbs on top of that side. Cook it in the air fryer again for two minutes before flipping it to cook for another two minutes on the other side.
Option Three: Breadcrumb coated bread with a hot pan
The most complicated option but also the tastiest! Put your food in an air fryer and cover it with bread crumbs (we used panko). Cook for four minutes, flip, coat in more crumbs, cook for four more minutes.
Butter on both sides with a hot pan
This was our favorite way to make toast in an air fryer because the toast came out crispy on both sides. We started with two pieces of white bread, buttered one side of each piece, and placed them in the air fryer. We set it to 400 degrees and let it cook for 2 minutes. The heat from the air fryer melts the butter a little bit so when we flipped the toast over, the second side of bread was also coated with butter. This made for an extremely crispy piece of toast!
Butter on one side and breadcrumbs on the other with a hot pan
The breadcrumbs add a nice crunch to the toast, but we found that the toast was inconsistent in cooking. Even though the air fryer is a hot pan, it doesn’t produce enough heat to make all surfaces of the bread crisp like a regular toaster.
Breadcrumb coated bread with a hot pan
This technique was the most time-consuming and required more work than the others. The breadcrumbs did not stick to the bread, so we had to spread them with a spatula. This technique also got the most smoke out of all three. The toast took about four minutes, which is five minutes longer than it would take in a traditional oven.
Butter on both sides with a hot pan
This technique was straightforward and easy. We melted butter on both sides of the bread and then placed it in the air fryer for one minute. This method resulted in a perfectly browned toast that had crispy edges and soft centers. The toast took only one minute to cook, five minutes less than if you were using a traditional oven!
Butter on one side and breadcrumbs on the other with a hot pan
We melted butter on only one side of the bread and coated it with bread crumbs before placing it in the air fryer for one minute. There was minimal smoke when cooking this way, but we found that half of our toast came out burnt because there wasn’t enough moisture from either side of butter to protect against overcooking.
Conclusion
The air fryer is a great kitchen appliance. It is easy to use and offers many benefits. And while the air fryer is not meant to replace your oven, it is the perfect way to make toast.
