Kitchen Appliance Certifications: What Each Mark Actually Covers
Every market you sell into accepts a different set of marks, and three of them are routinely confused with each other. This page lists what we hold, which market each one opens, and what a buyer should ask for before placing a first order. Where we do not hold a certificate, we say so.
The marks we hold
| Mark | Рынок | Based on | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|---|
| CE | European Union / EEA | LVD 2014/35/EU, EMC 2014/30/EU, RoHS 2011/65/EU, REACH, ErP where applicable | The legal entry requirement for the EU. A CE declaration of conformity plus the test reports behind it. |
| GS | Germany (and accepted across the EU) | Tested to EN 60335-1 and EN 60335-2-14 by a notified body | Not legally required, but German and Austrian buyers treat it as the default. It carries a factory audit. |
| CB | International (IECEE) | IEC 60335 series, transferable to national schemes | The fastest route to a national certificate in a new market, because the test data is already accepted. |
| UKCA | Великобритания | UK electrical safety and EMC equivalents | Required for Great Britain. We hold it alongside CE, so a UK launch does not need a separate programme. |
| ETL | United States / Canada | Tested to UL 1082 and UL 982 by an NRTL (Intertek) | This is the mark US retailers expect. It is an NRTL listing to the UL standard, not a UL listing. |
| FCC | Соединенные Штаты | FCC Part 15 (EMC / radio where applicable) | Required for anything with a motor or a wireless module. Always quoted with the ETL programme. |
| RoHS / REACH | Европейский союз | Restricted substances and SVHC declaration | Frequently requested by EU retail compliance teams even when CE is already in place. |
What we do not hold, and how we handle it
UL listing: we do not hold a UL listing. US and Canadian buyers normally accept an ETL mark instead — it is issued by Intertek as a nationally recognised testing laboratory, tested to the same UL 1082 / UL 982 standards, and it is what Amazon, Costco and most US retail compliance teams ask to see. If your channel specifically requires a UL file number, tell us before we quote, because that changes the test programme and the timeline.
SASO / G-Mark (Gulf): we do not currently hold Gulf certification. For Saudi Arabia and the UAE we quote the certification programme as a separate line, with the testing handled by a local notified body.
Market-specific plugs and voltage: EU, UK, US, AU and Gulf plug variants are all available. The plug and the nameplate change with the market, so the certificate has to match the version you actually ship — we test the version on the carton, not a lab sample that differs from production.
How to verify us in ten minutes
- Ask for the certificate PDF for the exact model number you are ordering.
- Check the model number on the certificate against the model number on the carton artwork.
- Ask which laboratory issued it, and look that laboratory up in the relevant scheme directory.
- Ask whether the report covers the plug and voltage variant you are buying.
- Ask to see the last three shipments’ inspection reports (AQL 1.5 / 4.0) for the same model.
If a supplier cannot answer items 1, 2 and 4 without forwarding your request to a trading company, the certificate probably does not belong to the product you are buying.
Who pays for certification
New certifications for a market we do not yet hold are paid by the buyer, and we state the cost and the lead time before the order is placed, not after. Certifications we already hold for a standard model are included — you receive the reports with the shipment documents at no extra cost.
For an OEM housing change, a material change in the food-contact path, or a new motor, the certificate has to be renewed. That is a real cost and a real delay, and it is the most common surprise in a private-label project. We flag it during the DFM review so it is in the timeline before tooling starts.
Frequently asked questions
Do you hold UL certification for your kitchen appliances?
No. We hold ETL (Intertek) tested to UL 1082 and UL 982, which is the NRTL mark US and Canadian retailers normally accept. If your channel insists on a UL file number, tell us before quoting, because the test programme and lead time change.
Is GS required to sell in Germany?
Legally, CE is what is required. In practice, German retail buyers and their compliance teams expect GS, and it carries a factory audit that CE does not. We hold GS for our main ranges, so a German launch is normally the same timeline as an EU one.
Can I use your CE certificate for my own brand?
Not directly. The certificate belongs to the manufacturer and the model. For private label you need a declaration of conformity in your own name, which references the same test reports. We prepare that document with the OEM paperwork and it is included.
How long does a new certification take?
An ETL programme on an existing platform typically runs six to ten weeks including sample preparation. GS adds a factory audit. Gulf certification for Saudi Arabia is longer. We give you the tested-and-issued date, not just the laboratory lead time.
Do you provide test reports with the shipment?
Yes. Certificates, test reports and the declaration of conformity travel with the shipping documents for every order, for the exact model and plug variant on the carton.
What about food-contact compliance?
Every part that touches food is tested to EU 1935/2004 and, for plastics, EU 10/2011. For the US market we work to FDA 21 CFR. Stainless parts are 304 or 316L with a passivation record.
Can the certificate cover a colour change?
A colour change on the same housing and electronics normally does not require re-certification. A new housing, a new motor, or a change in the food-contact material does. We tell you which category your change falls into during the DFM review.
Which certifications do you hold for cordless products?
CE and UKCA for the appliance, plus UN38.3 and MSDS for the lithium cells, which the carrier requires before booking. ETL and FCC are added for the US market.
Next step
Tell us the model, the market and the plug variant, and we will send the certificate set for that exact configuration — or tell you what has to be tested first.
